Classic Designer is a drag&drop-type e-mail editor that contains ten blocks with which you can build your message. Blocks are components that you can drag and drop into your message design to create space for things like images, videos, and text boxes.

In this article you will find descriptions of individual blocks (you can click on the selected block and we will move you to the right place in the article), and you will also learn how to add and move blocks added to an e-mail and what are the common settings for each block.

Blocks available in the Classic Designer

There are ten blocks you can use in the Classic Designer:

You can access the Classic Designer from the Campaigns and Automations tab. In the first one – when creating an e-mail (Standard or Automated) after clicking Create a Campaign. In the second – when creating automation with an e-mail (Send an email action).

Text Block

Use this block to add text to your e-mail.

After adding a text block to your e-mail, click on it to bring up the editing toolbar. From there you can change e.g. font, size, colour and text alignment. You can also add links and personalization tags.

In the Options tab on the right you can change the line height, background colour, margins and padding.

Predictive Content

With this block, you can send the right content to the right contacts to increase your click rate.

Image

Use this block to add an image or GIF to an e-mail. After adding a block and clicking on it, the editing toolbar will be displayed, from where you can access the image editor or align the current image.

You can use the image editor to modify any image you want to use in your e-mails.

In the Options tab on the right, you can e.g. add a link to an image, and change its dimensions, margins and padding.

Button

Use this block to add a CTA to your e-mail.

After adding a block and clicking on it, the editing toolbar will be displayed from where you can select your preferred button alignment.

The Options tab in the right menu will allow you to change e.g. link and text in the button, its colour, size and shape. You can also adjust the font size, border colour and size, margins and padding.

Video

Use this block to link to a video in an e-mail.

Blok will generate a screenshot of your video and display it in an e-mail with a play button. When recipients receive your e-mail, they can click the play button and your video will open in a new tab or window in their browser.

After adding a block and clicking on it, the editing toolbar will be displayed, from where you can access the image/video editor to replace the video cover, change the video link or adjust the alignment.

In the Options tab on the right, you can e.g. edit the video link, and change margins and padding.

Line Break

Use this block to add a horizontal line separating two different blocks.

In the Options tab on the right, you can e.g. change the width, height, and colour of the separator, as well as the margins and padding.

Spacer

This block is dedicated to mobile devices and you can use it to add a blank space between content blocks.

In the Options tab on the right, you can e.g. change the height of the block as well as the margins and padding.

You can also achieve an effect similar to this block by using margins and padding.

RSS Feed

Use this block to insert your RSS feed into an e-mail. Thanks to it, you will automatically share news from the blog with your contacts.

After adding a block and clicking on it, the editing toolbar will be displayed, from where you can adjust the font type and size, format the content and choose the alignment you prefer.

In the Options tab on the right, you can e.g. change the margins and padding within a single entry and the entire block.

Social Links

Use this block to add social media links to your e-mail. Thanks to this, its recipients can share your message on their social networks.

After dragging the block to the e-mail, a modal window will appear, enabling you to add links to your social profiles and choose the appearance of the icons.

After adding a block and clicking on it, the editing toolbar will be displayed, from where you can return to the view of the modal window (screen above), adjust the way the icons are displayed and choose the preferred alignment of the block content.

In the Options tab on the right, you can e.g. change the size of the icons, the size of the spacing between them, and the margins and padding.

HTML Block

Use this block to add your own HTML to your e-mail.

After adding a block and clicking on it, an HTML editor will be displayed where you can enter your own code.

In the Options tab on the right, you can e.g. edit the code, and change the margins and padding.

There are also additional blocks whose availability depends on the selected automation scenario or trigger. Such a block is, for example, the Abandoned Cart block that appears in the Classic Designer when creating an e-mail for automation using the Abandons cart trigger.

Adding and moving blocks in an e-mail

Adding blocks

Adding blocks to your e-mail is very simple. Just drag the block you want to use from the right menu into your project.

As you drag the content block to the e-mail, you'll notice a green highlight line. This line indicates where the content block will be placed when the cursor is released (see the example in the short video in the frame above).

Moving blocks

Once you add a block to an e-mail, you can easily move it. To do this:

  • hover your mouse over the block you want to move

  • click on the four-way arrow that appears to the right of the block

  • drag and release the block to the desired location

Block common settings

The settings for each block in the e-mail include:

  • duplicating – selecting this option will create an exact copy of the selected block;

  • conditioning – using segmentation, you can choose which recipients will see this block;

  • hiding on mobile devices – this option will hide the selected block when the e-mail is displayed on a mobile device;

  • saving to the library – this option will allow you to save the selected block in the library; once saved, you can easily add it to any next e-mail or template you create;

  • deleting – using this option will remove the block from your project.

To access block settings:

1. hover over the block,

2. click on the gear icon,

3. a modal menu will appear listing all the settings that can be used for the block,

4. click on the option you want to use.
